ACS-Hach Land Grant Undergraduate Scholarship

The ACS-Hach Land Grant Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded to up to 2 WVU undergraduate chemistry and related majors who have expressed an intention in teaching high school chemistry. Students are selected based on chemistry aptitude, interest and need.

Scholars receive $10,000 per academic year. Students must meet the award criteria to renew a scholarship. The scholarship can be applied to tuition, books, room and board and other education-related expenses.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must:

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student

  • Major in chemistry or a related major as described below, and complete an education program

  • Express the intention to teach high school chemistry after graduation

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States

  • Agricultural Chemistry

  • Biochemistry

  • Ceramic Science/Chemistry/Technology

  • Chemical Engineering

  • Chemical Technology

  • Environmental Science/Engineering (must be chemistry-based)

  • Forensic Science/Chemistry

  • Food Science (not Nutrition)

  • Industrial Chemistry

  • Materials Science or Petroleum Engineering

  • Nanotechnology or Nanoscience

  • Paper and Pulp Technology

  • Toxicology

National Council for Teachers of Mathematics grants range from $1,500 to $24,000 and are available to help math teachers, prospective teachers and other math educators improve the teaching and learning of mathematics.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)

The PSLF program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.

Sallie Lowther Norris Showalter Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Related Disciplines

This award recognizes an undergraduate woman or female-identifying student who demonstrates high mathematical and/or scientific achievement and a commitment to social justice and/or women’s and gender studies issues.

Underwood-Smith Teacher Scholarship Program

The Underwood-Smith Teacher Scholarship Program is a new scholarship available to highly qualified students interested in pursuing a career as a West Virginia math, science, elementary education or special education teacher. This scholarship is open to students to both West Virginia residents and non-West Virginia residents.

Eligibility for the Underwood-Smith Teacher Scholarship Loan Assistance Program award is limited to a teacher or counselor in a high-need area in West Virginia.

West Virginia Council for Teachers of Mathematics (WVCTM) Teacher-In-Training Grant

The West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics will award a $600 grant to an outstanding West Virginia student enrolled in a West Virginia college or university. It will be given to a student who is training to become a mathematics teacher and who has intentions of teaching in West Virginia.

West Virginia Engineering, Science And Technology Scholarship Program

West Virginia Engineering, Science and Technology Scholarship Program is a student financial aid program designed to enable and encourage academically talented individuals to pursue careers in the fields of engineering, science and technology. Scholarships, not to exceed $3,000 per academic year, are awarded based on academic qualifications and interest in the fields of engineering, science and technology. Priority is given to West Virginia residents. Awards are contingent upon annual funding of the program by the West Virginia State Legislature. The purpose of the program is to assist West Virginians interested in obtaining a degree or certificate in engineering, science or technology and committed to the pursuit of a career in West Virginia.

Robert Noyce Scholarship

WVU, with support from the National Science Foundation, offers the Robert Noyce Scholarship Program to support students pursuing a STEM degree and teaching certification through WVU's STEM Teacher Preparation Program who desire to become middle or high school science teachers. The Robert Noyce Scholarship provides up to $14,500 per year to juniors or seniors participating in the STEM Teacher Preparation Program. Students are required to teach for two years for each year of scholarship support.
